Abbie & Austin met a few years ago at a coffee shop, and now they’re engaged and wedding planning! Austin actually proposed to Abbie on a walk at Elmer W Oliver Nature Park, so it felt like the perfect location to take their engagement photos!! Here are a few tips if you’re planning to shoot there:

1. Be Prepared To Walk

Elmer W Oliver Park is a very large park that involves some uphill walking. I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone that can’t walk long distances or feels like they’ll sweat through their clothes too quickly!

    2. It Gets Dark Earlier

Since Elmer W Oliver Park has so many trees, it gets dark about 30 minutes earlier than sunset here. So I wouldn’t line your session up with sunset for this park. Instead, schedule your session so that you’ll be done about 30 minutes before the sun goes down to get the best lighting.

    3. Avoid Wearing Stilettos

The walking paths at Elmer W Oliver Nature Park are gravel. They’re tough to walk on in high heels, so I’d recommend wearing a shoe with a wider heel, or something more comfortable like flats or boots!

    4. Come in Spring Time for Wildflowers

Elmer W Oliver Park has a wildflower meadow in the back left corner of the park. It even has bluebonnets in April! A perfect hidden gem if you’re wanting some wildflower photos in the spring.

Overall, it’s a beautiful park with a lot of diverse locations take photos in nature! Some of my favorite spots to hit are the bridge near the entrance, the treehouse overlook, the gravel paths and open field near the lake, the wooden pathway, and the wildflower meadow in the back!

If you’re looking for a photographer to take your photos at this park, or want some professional guidance choosing the right location for your session, I’d love to help! You can contact me here to get started!
